LearntoEarn Learn to Earn

We all know that education is critical to breaking cycles of poverty and disappointment. Often times, for students in United Ministries’ Adult Education Program, poverty sets the backdrop for the stories of their lives. For one reason or another, they did not finish high school. Some made some bad decisions in their youth; for others, circumstances beyond their control kept them from achievement. They have come to United Ministries for a second chance, and we are glad they came. And because of your support, we will offer them life changing opportunities.

United Ministries has seen the need for adult education grow tremendously over the past few years, and we have met that need with quality program services. The numbers speak for themselves: the number of GED graduates increased exponentially from 17 graduates in 2004 to 340 graduates in 2009. As a result, the program has established a reputation of excellence, becoming a regular referral of the school system, the court system, the hospital system, Greenville Tech, and other humanitarian agencies.

We need your help to meet this increased demand. For $100 you can sponsor one of the 600 students in the program. This sponsorship covers the GED exam fee, the cost of study materials, the cap and the tassel – in sum, giving a student a second chance at completing his or her high school education. United Ministries’ GED graduation ceremony is a moving testimony to the will and determination of our students to overcome the odds and take a step toward their dream of a better life.

Many of our graduates continue on to college or job training. One of the most popular training courses, with a waiting list of 300+ people, is for Certified Nursing Assistants. For a donation of $850, you can provide this life changing opportunity by sponsoring a trainee. Certified Nursing Assistants are in demand, and many of our trainees are able to find jobs and earn livable wages after completing the program.

The cost to operate the Adult Education Program for one business day is approximately $1,500. You can support one of 250 business days this year by making a tax-deductible donation of $1,500 to the Learn the Earn Fund.

Thank you for helping United Ministries provide life changing opportunities through education. You are making an investment not only in the lives of our students, but also in the future of our community.
