  3. Dentist Helps Others by Providing Transformative Dental Work

Dr. Joseph Holliday, DMD, of Holliday Dental, P.A. is a longtime dentist in the Greenville community and a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church.  His clients happen to include three different members of the United Ministries staff!

Over the past few years, Dr. Holliday has twice provided free restorative dental services to participants in the Employment Readiness Program.

In 2014, Dr. Holliday assisted a participant who had suffered serious dental damage as the result of past drug use.  This participant had been drug free for a number of years and was having a hard time getting back into the medical administrative field, mostly due to the appearance of her teeth.  Dr. Holliday was able to work with this participant to improve not only her appearance and chance of finding quality employment, but also the participant’s self-confidence.  This participant did obtain a front office position, and she was still working one year after joining the Employment Readiness Program.

Recently, Dr. Holliday helped a job trainee who was experiencing dental issues stemming a recent lack of professional dental care.  This participant had taken good care of her teeth and had spent a good bit of money on her dental care throughout her life until the past few years, a time in which her family has struggled financially and not been able to afford proper care.  In 2016, with the help of United Ministries, this participant took a medical office continuing education course.  She performed well in the training but was incredibly discouraged about her chances of finding work because of additional dental issues that arose following the end of the training, including the loss of teeth.  With the help of Dr. Ellen Thrailkill, DMD, of Great Oaks Dental in Pickens, Dr. Holliday was able to repair this participant’s dental problems and set her back on the path to obtaining quality employment.

Both participants have expressed sincere gratitude not just for the dental work that was donated, but also for the kindness and concern that was shown to them by Dr. Holliday and his staff.  Employment Readiness is grateful for this community partnership.
