United Ministries is currently seeking applicants for the Economic Mobility Partner position in our Striving to Thrive program (formerly Employment Readiness).
Striving to Thrive supports and guides individuals as they work to improve their economic mobility by pursuing goals related to career, finances, housing, education, and overall well-being. These goals are interrelated and require sustained effort, and therefore the program implements a holistic, long-term approach.
The Economic Mobility Partner (EMP) works one-on-one with program participants to address immediate stability needs and to provide barrier removal; to provide coaching, support, and accountability related to goal-setting and pursuit; and to connect with resources and provide advocacy as needed. Most importantly, the EMP understands that poverty isn’t simply a lack of resources, but it is a traumatic experience that can result in persistent psychological and emotional impacts. The EMP therefore takes a person-centered approach, implementing interpersonal strategies designed to build self-efficacy and resilience as essential to long-term success and well-being.
Striving to Thrive works within an integrated service program model that also provides in-house financial coaching, mental health counseling, computer skills tutoring, GED preparation, a matched saving program, housing resources, and crisis assistance. The EMP works within a small, interdisciplinary team to provide a seamless continuum of program services appropriate to each person’s unique needs and circumstances.
Excellent applicants will have a discerning and compassionate spirit, as well as multiple years of experience in human services. Relevant lived experience and bilingual skills are also highly valued. Training will be provided in the areas of coaching, career counseling, and financial well-being, including courses such as Basics of Motivational Interviewing, EMPath’s Foundations of Mobility Mentoring®, and Credit as an Asset.
United Ministries’ mission is to serve and empower those on the transformative journey to self-sufficiency. Our vision is a community working together to ensure that all people have the opportunity to thrive in Greenville. United Ministries is a member of EMPath’s (Economic Mobility Pathways) Economic Mobility Exchange.
