GREENVILLE, S.C. (October 11, 2017) – United Ministries’ signature community-wide fundraising event, the Transformation Walk presented by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, took place at Fluor Field on Sunday, October 1st. The event raises awareness about poverty in Greenville and funds to support the programs of United Ministries, which focus on education and employment, crisis assistance, and homeless services. Funds raised from sponsors, walkers, donors, and the raffle raised $90,000.
“All of us at United Ministries are grateful that the Greenville community has literally ‘stepped up’ to ensure that we can create transformative opportunities for those in need in our community. Thanks to the generosity of so many, inspired by our friends at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, our neighbors in need will know that Greenville really cares,” says Tony McDade, Executive Director of United Ministries.
The Transformation Walk Block Party featured lived music from The Erica Berg Collective, a food truck rally, and raffle for three prizes: BMW Performance Driving Center class, four Michelin tires, and $500 worth of Spinx gas discounts. The event was free and open to the public. Teams competed for top fundraising prizes. Buncombe Street United Methodist Church Sprouts and St. Mary’s Confirmation Class won awards, with each team raising close to $7,000.
Participants walked a three-mile route that passes service agencies in downtown Greenville who are serving our neighbors in need. Volunteers along the route held signs with local poverty statistics that are often surprising.
“Bon Secours St. Francis Health System is pleased to have been the presenting sponsor of United Ministries’ Transformation Walk. We support the mission of United Ministries and their commitment to provide education and services to the homeless,” says Deb Long, Director of Healthy Community Initiatives for the Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.
Funds raised benefit United Ministries’ mission to serve and empower those on the transformative journey to self-sufficiency. Learn more about the organization’s work to transform thousands of local lives at www.United-Ministries.org.
