How It Works

Understanding Economic Mobility

The Bridge to Opportunity

The Bridge to Opportunity is a holistic, science-informed tool and framework designed to support individuals and families in achieving sustained economic mobility. Adapted from EMPath’s Economic Mobility Bridge, it integrates brain science to strengthen executive functioning and contextualized decision-making.

Used alongside Economic Mobility Coaching, The Bridge fosters a strengths-based partnership between mentors and participants, guiding them through a clear, personalized path to self-sufficiency across four key areas: family stability, well-being, financial management, career & training.

Economic Mobility Coaching

Economic Mobility Coaching is a strengths-based, participant-driven approach that empowers individuals to achieve long-term economic independence. Rooted in EMPath’s Mobility Mentoring® model, this coaching practice is built on four core elements: Coaching for Economic Mobility, the Economic Mobility Bridge®, goal setting, and recognition. Economic Mobility Partners (EMPs) form one-on-one partnerships with participants, offering guidance and support to build key skills such as decision-making, persistence, and resilience.

Acting as “human scaffolding,” EMPs help participants assess their needs, define meaningful goals, and access the resources and opportunities necessary to move toward sustained economic stability.

Supportive Resources & Services

Economic mobility requires holistic, wraparound support, which is why we offer a range of integrated services to meet participants’ diverse needs. Each program and service has been developed with input from participants and are designed to act as building blocks for long-term stability. A key offering is our mental health counseling program, available to all participants across programs.

We also provide financial support tools to those engaged in Economic Mobility programming, including a matched savings program, a loan fund, and access to stabilization resources—all aimed at helping individuals build a strong foundation for sustained economic success.

Recognizing & Celebrating Participants

Recognition is a meaningful part of how we support and encourage participants on their path to economic mobility. It’s not just about celebrating big accomplishments—it’s also about acknowledging the effort and progress made along the way. Recognition can take many forms, from one-on-one celebrations and handwritten notes from staff to certificates, small incentives, or opportunities for participants to share their stories with a broader audience.

No matter the format, the goal is the same: to honor each participant’s hard work, build confidence, and reinforce the belief that every step forward matters.
